Giroud Confirms Arsenal Move
France striker Olivier Giroud used his official twitter account to confirm he had signed for Arsenal before the club announced the deal. See what he said here
France striker Olivier Giroud confirmed he has signed for Arsenal before the club announced the deal.
The Daily Star reported that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that a deal to bring the striker the Emirates was “90 percent” done, with the fee thought to be in the region of £13m. Speaking on French radio last week, Wenger said:
“Giroud is going to be an Arsenal player next season. I think he has exceptional potential and will integrate very well in our collective and our way of playing.
“He is a real team player and knows how to combine with other players and I’m sure he will do well.”
Wenger is quoted as saying by the Daily Star.
Now the player himself has confirmed the deal is complete after being quoted in the Sun as saying:
“I am so happy to be signing for Arsenal — it is something that represents so much for me.”
“I’ve always dreamed of playing in the Premier League and Arsenal are a great club with many French players.”
Nothing official has come from the club yet but it’s another sign that the official transfer of Giroud to Arsenal is nothing more than a formality now. I think it’s safe to say he’ll be an Arsenal player soon.
There are also rumours doing the rounds that a medical is penciled in for early next week, but these are unsubstantiated at this point.
With Giroud (almost) in the bag, Arsene Wenger will now turn his attention to trying to offload some of the clubs ‘deadwood’, with Nicklas Bendtner, Marouane Chamakh, Denilson, Sebastian Squillaci and Carlos Vela all in the firing line.
