[RESULTS] Your World Cup Team of the Tournament
By Football Talk.
Over the past week we have been running polls for readers to select their Dream XI from the South Africa World Cup. We have tallied up the votes so here is the World Cup 2010 Team of the Tournament as selected by you, the fans.
Casillas (Spain) 44%
Maicon (Brazil) 9% Ramos (Spain) 12% Puyol (Spain) 15% Lahm (Germany) 16%
Sneijder (Holland) 21.4% Schweinsteiger (Germany) 17.7% Ozil (Germany) 16.9%
Mueller (Germany) 20.4% Forlan (Uruguay) 28.8% Villa (Spain) 26.5%
Predictably there is a heavy Spanish influence with four of their victories squad making the team, and it seems Germany impressed many of you as they too have four representatives. Goalkeeper Casillas was a run-away winner with 44% of the total votes in the goalkeeping category.
Before you say it, we know that Sergio Ramos played at right-back for Spain but the poll was for defenders and not individual positions and you picked three full-backs to be in the XI, so Ramos is down as a centre-back in the team.
The midfield category was a tight affair and surprisingly neither Xavi or Iniesta made the cut, the later only narrowly missed out by 0.6% though. Germany’s impressive duo Ozil and Schweinsteiger both did enough to make the grade while Holland’s Wesley Sneijder was the top midfielder with 21.4%.
The forward three were miles apart from their opposition, each getting over 20% and all three accounted for 75.7% of the total votes in the striker poll. Player of the Tournament Deigo Forlan was the most voted for out-field player with 28.8%.
So there you have it, the World Cup XI selected by Football-Talk visitors. Not a bad side is it?!
