Chelsea defender Ashley Cole has been involved in angry exchanges with Arsenal fans, just hours after joining the popular social networking site Twitter.
Having announced himself on Twitter as @TheRealAC3, predictably Cole was in-undated with abusive tweets from Arsenal fans who have still not forgiven the defender for his acrimonious move to Stamford Bridge in 2006.
The 31-year-old responded to the abuse by taunting the Gooner faithful about their clubs lack of silverware in recent years, with the North Londoners currently on a seven year barren spell, whilst uploading an image reminding them that he’s won a number of major trophies during that period.
As the abuse continued, he then tweeted:
‘I am what I am!!! Winnerrr!!!! Hahahahahahah, 11 to me 0 for you!!! http://yfrog.com/h7i4jsoj’
…with an accompanying photograph of him holding the champions league trophy following Chelsea’s triumph in Munich last season. Cole later tweeted to those who have been abusing him, calling them ‘babies’:
‘tut tut tut, love to give it out but cant take it when the truth is told, babies!!!! thought people on here had sense of humour!!!!!’
I’m sure Cole is used to the abuse he gets from the stands during matches, but i’m not too sure how long he’ll be able to take the level of abuse he’s likely to receive on Twitter. Many players have been forced to close down their accounts due to the stick they get, and with the majority of Arsenal fans still holding a grudge, Cole is likely to get more than his fair share. But it looks like he’s not going to take it laying down, and is going to give as good as he gets.
