Manchester United have made a late bid to snatch Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin from rivals Arsenal, according to Spanish media outlet Marca (translated version).
The report claims that Sahin’s future is set to be resolved in the next few days after being told he can leave on loan by Jose Mourinho and United have entered the race to sign him.
The 23-year-old is believed to be open to a move to Old Trafford but the main stumbling block appears to be the fact that Sir Alex Ferguson wants to sign the Turkish international on a permanent basis, with Madrid only interested in a loan deal.
Sahin is still highly regarded within the Bernabeu, despite his lack of playing time since his move from Borussia Dortmund last summer, and he is still seen as a player who has a future at the club, so Real are reluctant to let him leave on a permanent deal.
Arsenal are thought to be in advanced talks to sign the player with Marca saying an ‘agreement between Sahin and Wenger’s team is almost complete’. The only thing preventing the deal from going through is Real and Arsenal agreeing on what percentage of Sahin’s wages each club pay.
Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham are also interested in Sahin but Madrid are only willing to do business with Spurs if the midfielder is included as part of a deal for Luka Modric, but the Londoners are still demanding a fee that the Spaniards are unwilling to meet.
The player himself has accepted he needs to leave Madrid in order to play regular first team football after initially being reluctant to leave, but is keen to have his future resolved as soon as possible so he has time to settle at his new club ahead of the new season.

It looks like Arsenal remain in the driving seat to land the highly-talented midfielder, unless United come round to the idea of a loan or Spurs drop their asking price for Modric.
