Arsenal have beaten Liverpool to the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin, according to various sources including the BBC and the Daily Mail.
The Premier League duo have both been strongly linked with a move for the Turkish midfielder in recent weeks, after boss Jose Mourinho made him available for loan.
Sahin has struggled to make a breakthrough at the Bernabeu following his move from Borussia Dortmund in 2011 and Mourinho has told the 23-year-old to go and gain some first team experience elsewhere.
Liverpool were thought to be close to completing a move towards the end of last week with Mourinho keen for the player to link up with friend and former colleague Brendan Rodgers.
But it seems Arsenal’s sale of Alex Song to Barcelona has prompted them into making a late swoop and the BBC claim the player has chosen to move to the Emirates over Anfield in order to play champions league football next season.
He will join the Gunners on a year long loan with the option to make the move permanent should all parties be happy to do so.
Liverpool are understood to have offered Madrid a larger loan fee, but the club will honor the wishes of the player and the Daily Mail claim the move to Arsenal will be announced within the next 24 hours.
