Russians Hoping To Sign Arshavin & Nani Today
Russian champions Zenit St Petersburg are trying to push through late moves for Manchester United’s £25m-rated winger Nani and Arsenal forward Andrei Arshavin
Despite the British transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, Nani and Arshavin are linked with Zenit.
Zenit St Petersburg are trying to push through late moves for Man Utd winger Nani and Arsenal forward Andrei Arshavin, according to the Daily Mail.
While many transfer windows across Europe are now closed, Russia is still firmly open for business until Thursday night and the champions are still hopeful of adding two Premier League outcasts to their squad.
Manchester United winger Nani has fallen out-of-favour at Old Trafford this season and has seen his future come under question after failing to agree terms on a new contract.
The Portuguese ace has just under two years to run on his current contract and had hoped to sign a fresh deal in the summer and commit his future to the Manchester club, but instead United have refused to meet his £120,000-a-week demands.
He has also lost his place in Sir Alex Ferguson’s starting eleven following a disappointing show during their opening weekend defeat to Everton. The 25-year-old has only played 29 minutes of football since the defeat at Goodison Park, with Ashley Young, Antonia Valencia and even Danny Welbeck preferred on the wings in recent games.
The Daily Mail claim this has left Nani feeling unwanted and a move away from the club could still be negotiated with Zenit ready to pay £25m for his services.
The big-spending Russians are also hoping to secure the permanent transfer of Arsenal attacker Andrei Arshavin before the window slams shut.
Arshavin is no longer part of Arsene Wengers plans and has been told he is free to leave the Emirates, with Zenit keen to sign him for a third time after taking him on loan for the second half of last season.

However, the 31-year-old is believed to be willing to remain in north London and fight for his place in the team, but with Dynamo Moscow and CSKA Moscow also interested, Arsenal would rather cash in now and get Arshavin off the books before his contract expires next summer.
