Arsenal make the trip to Carrow Road to take on Norwich City on Saturday evening and boss Arsene Wenger has given an injury update ahead of the game.
Speaking to Arsenal.com, Wenger provided the latest news on Theo Walcott, Kieran Gibbs, Wojciech Szczesny, Lukasz Fabianski, Tomas Rosicky and Abou Diaby.
Walcott picked up a chest injury while on international duty for England this week and looks likely to be on the sidelines for two weeks, meaning he’s definitely out of this weekends clash with Norwich.
Left back Gibbs will also be missing after being forced off against West Ham last time out but could be back to face QPR next Saturday.
As reported during the week we face something of a goalkeeping injury crisis at present and Arsene confirmed Fabianski has picked up a fresh ankle ligament problem. The Pole will see specialists to assess the extent of the injury but it looks like he’s set for another extended spell on the treatment table.
Szczesny is also out this weekend but should be back in contention in around two weeks, while both Rosicky and Diaby are ‘a few weeks’ away from returning. Here’s what Arsene Wenger told Arsenal.com:
on Theo Walcott…
Theo is out for Saturday, for sure. He has an injury to his chest and lungs. We have to treat that clinically. He’s quickly short of breath when he makes an effort but it’s bruising and that will heal. It’s no major concern but it will take we think about two weeks to be back to a normal level.
on Kieran Gibbs…
Kieran Gibbs is out for Saturday because he went off against West Ham. He’s not healed yet. He has a little chance to be ready for Wednesday and a bigger chance for QPR.
on Szczesny and Fabianski…
Fabianski sees a specialist today [Thursday]. I don’t know what will come out of that. It’s an ankle ligament problem – a new problem. He was back in training before that. Szczesny I think is two weeks away.
on Rosicky and Diaby…
Rosicky is still a few weeks away and Diaby as well.
So the squad isn’t in bad shape with most players due back in 2-3 weeks time. With Jack Wilshere, Bacary Sagna and Emmanuel Frimpong all pushing for recalls after completing 90 minutes in a friendly against Chelsea this week, things are looking more positive. Let’s just hope Vito Mannone doesn’t get injured any time soon!
