Arsenal have been handed an injury boost ahead of their trip to Old Trafford on Saturday with first choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny returning to training after six weeks on the sidelines.
The Gunners travel to Manchester on Saturday lunchtime looking to improve upon last seasons scoreline that saw us humbled 6-1 by United and the potential return of Szczesny is no doubt a major boost ahead of the game.
Szczesny has been out of action for over six weeks after injuring his ankle following our 6-1 win over Southampton back in September, but the latest pictures from training on Monday morning published on Arsenal.com shows the 22-year-old is back in full training with the rest of the squad.
With Lukasz Fabianski also out injured, Italian Vito Mannone has filled the void in the absence of the Polish pair. While Mannone may have performed reasonably well on occasion, he still hasn’t filled us with confidence, despite keeping goal for the side that currently boasts the best defensive record in the Premier League.
If Szczesny can prove his fitness this week in training, i would fully expect him to return between the sticks this coming weekend. Szczesny had an uncertain start to the season after a simple mistake allowed Southampton to nick a consolation, but he’s still a far better keeper than Mannone and should certainly start at Old Trafford if fit. Mannone simply hasn’t done enough to keep hold of the No.1 shirt.
