Liverpool vs Swansea Preview, Team News, Likely Line-ups & Predicted Score
Liverpool play Swansea City as the two clubs face-off at Anfield in the Capital One Cup. Here’s a preview with team news, likely line-ups and predicted score.
Brendan Rodgers faces his former side Swansea City for the first time since leaving the Welsh outfit for Liverpool, as the two clubs face-off at Anfield in the Capital One Cup.
Rodgers helped guide Swansea to promotion from the Championship and enjoyed an excellent debut season in the Premier League before being lured to Merseyside in the summer.
The Reds head into the game off the back of a four-game unbeaten run, the latest being Sunday’s controversial 2-2 draw with Everton.
Swansea arrive at Anfield to face the reigning cup champions sitting one place above the hosts in the league table, and the two sides will battle it out for a place in the quarter finals.
Team News
Liverpool boss Rodgers is set to ring the changes with several fringe players given a chance to impress. Key players such as Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez, Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel are set to be rested.
That gives the likes of Jamie Carragher, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson a chance to stake a claim for first team football, and they are expected to be joined by youngsters Sebastian Coates, Samed Yesil and summer signing Oussama Assiadi in the starting line-up tonight.
Goalkeeper Pepe Reina is still recovering from a hamstring strain so Brad Jones continues in goal.
Swansea will be without keeper Michel Vorm, who has been ruled out for up to eight weeks with a groin injury, so Gerhard Tremmel steps in.
Ashley Williams and Wayne Routledge are doubts but are expected to shake off minor knocks to start. Left-back Dwight Tiendalli and club captain Garry Monk are likely to play some part in the game.

Predicted Score
Despite making a number of changes, Liverpool should still have enough quality to dispose of the Swans tonight, but the visitors will make a real game of it. Liverpool 2-1 Swansea.
