Arsenal have opened talks with Jack Wilshere over a bumper new contract that will see the midfielder commit his long-term future to the club, the Daily Mail report today.
The 20-year-old still has two-and-a-half years left to run on his current contract but the Gunners bosses are keen to extend to avoid any uncertainty over the youngsters future.
Initial talks have already taken place with Wilshere’s representatives that would see him rewarded with a significant increase on the £50,000-a-week he earns now. Summer signing Lukas Podolski is the club’s highest earner on £90,000-a-week and Wilshere’s new deal will make him one of our best-paid players.
It’s believed that Arsene Wenger is eager to secure Wilshere’s long-term future as he see’s him as the club’s next captain. Thomas Vermaelen is the current skipper but Wenger is planning for Jack to take over the armband within the next two or three years and feels it’s important he’s committed to the club for this to happen.
With all the recent problems we’ve had with contract’s and players leaving, it’s good to see that Arsenal are taking steps to tie Wilshere down to a long-term deal. He’s Arsenal through-and-through and is the future of the club, so it’s vital we keep hold of him.
