It was a bad night at the office for Liverpool as Roy Hodgson suffered his first defeat as manager at Anfield. Manchester City put three past the Reds at Eastlands with Sheikh Mansour in the crowd to watch his first live game as owner.
Gareth Barry opened the scoring early in the first half after some good work by debutant James Milner. Carlos Tevez doubled City’s advantage shortly after half time, getting the slightest of touches to a Richards goal-bound header. The game was over as a contest when Skrtel brought down Johnson in the area and Tevez scored from the spot to make it Manchester City 3-0 Liverpool.
