Arsenal Transfer News: Diame Rules Out Move
It looks like Arsenal are set to miss out on another transfer target with West Ham midfielder Mohamed Diame ruling out a move away from the club this month.
With the January transfer window now open for business we’ll be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer gossip. Today, Arsenal look set to miss out on Mohamed Diame.
Bad news Gooners, it looks like we’re set to miss out on another reported ‘target’ with West Ham midfielder Mohamed Diame ruling out a move away from the club this month, according to Sky Sports News.
Speculation has been rife in recent weeks over Diame’s future with several reports this week claiming boss Arsene Wenger was considering triggering the 23-year-old’s £3.5m release clause before the window closes at the end of the month.
Arsenal fans have been discussing the potential signing on Twitter all week and the player was given a warm welcome by the Emirates faithful when he was introduced in the second half during Wednesday nights 5-1 thrashing of the Hammers, with many fans probably anticipating we’d be seeing him again soon but wearing the famous Red & White shirt.
However, it seems we may be left empty-handed once again as Diame has moved to end speculation over his future by revealing he has spoken to Sam Allardyce and told his boss he wants to remain with West Ham. He told the clubs official website:
“I know there are people out there saying things about me but I have spoken with the manager and told him that I want to stay here.
“I know the club want to keep me too so I will continue to give my best for them.
“I knew when I signed that West Ham were going to make their mark on the Premier League. Since I came here I am enjoying every game I play on the pitch.
“I think I made a good choice because I’m very happy at this club.”
The Senegalese midfielder has only been with the Hammers for six months after joining on a free transfer from Wigan in the summer, but he’s made a huge impact at Upton Park and has put in some superb displays, particularly against Chelsea back in December.
I can see why the media linked us with Diame as our need for a midfield enforcer is clear, but I always thought he was too similar to Abou Diaby and was never confident Arsene would go for him. He’d ‘block Diaby’s development’, as the boss would no doubt say.

So it looks like that’s another transfer rumour we can put to bed for now. With a week left of the January window we don’t have long till we’re put out of our misery. I still think Wenger will buy at least one player, but who that will be is anyone’s guess.
