United Must Pay Top Dollar To Sign Bosnian Stopper
Manchester United will have to stump up around £15 million if they’re to land Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic as a replacement for David de Gea in the summer
Despite the transfer window now being closed there will still be plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Man Utd will have to pay to land Asmir Begovic.
Manchester United will have to stump up around £15 million if they’re to land Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic in the summer, according to the Mirror.
The report claims United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has identified the Bosnian international as the man he wants to replace David de Gea at the end of the season but Stoke are determined to get top-dollar for their number one.
Begovic has been a huge success for the Potters since joining from Portsmouth in 2010 and it seems excellent his form hasn’t gone unnoticed. The Mirror claim Stoke turned down a £12 million offer from Chelsea last summer and while they are determined to hang on to the 25-year-old, it’s understood Tony Pulis signed Jack Butland from Birmingham last month as insurance in case Begovic leaves but will demand around £15 million from United if the league leaders come calling in the summer.
The newspaper claims that while Begovic is Ferguson’s first choice, he has also drawn up a list of alternatives including Liverpool’s Pepe Reina and Sunderland’s Simon Mignolet.

I must admit I think David de Gea is harshly treated by the media in this country and hasn’t been as bad as some make out. Sure he seems a little suspect at times, but every goalkeeper makes mistakes. Fergie is considering Reina as a replacement, but he’s made far more errors this season than de Gea.
However, if the Mirror’s report is accurate and Ferguson wants a new stopper he could do a lot worse than Begovic. He’s arguably been the most consistent goalkeeper in the Premier League over the last 18 months and it’s no surprise if Stoke are demanding big-money for him. I think he’s got the talent to play for United but let’s see what happens in the summer.
