Begovic Expects Summer Move
Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has revealed he expects to be sold in the summer but has denied reports he’s already agreed a deal to join Manchester United
Despite the transfer window now being closed there will still be plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Asmir Begovic expects to be sold in the summer.
Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has revealed he expects to be sold in the summer but has denied reports he’s already agreed a deal to join Manchester United, according to Sky Sports News.
The Bosnia international has been in superb form at the Britannia Stadium since joining from Portsmouth in 2010, particularly over the last 18 months when he’s become one of the most reliable stoppers in the Premier League.
Sky Sports claim he’s been lined-up as a potential replacement for Man Utd’s David de Gea – who has come under scrutiny this season – while Man City are also understood to be eyeing Begovic as competition for number one Joe Hart.
However, while the 25-year-old has hit back at reports claiming he’s already agreed a deal to move to Old Trafford in the summer, he has admitted he expects to be sold at the end of the season after Stoke signed Jack Butland but is yet to decide where he’ll end up.
“I read in the papers that I said no to City and yes to United, but the truth is, I haven’t decided on anything.
“I didn’t say yes or no to anybody. I haven’t signed anything – no contract, no pre-contract. But I believe that Stoke didn’t buy Butland to be a reserve so I think I’m going to be sold in the summer.
“To whom? I can’t move to a smaller club and I also know that some top clubs are interested in me. They are also the only ones who can afford the fee.
“Now I’m just happy that January is over. It was a hard month for us, so many rumours. Now, we can focus on our games again.”

Stoke signed Butland from Birmingham City during the final days of the January transfer window but immediately loaned him back to the Championship side for the rest of the season. It does look as though they have already signed Begovic’s successor and a move for the Bosnian looks to be on the cards in the summer.
Personally, I think he’ll end up at Man Utd. De Gea has drawn unfair criticism from some quarters of the footballing world but he’s far from the finished article and Begovic would be step-up in my opinion.
