Danish Playmaker Eyes Summer Move
Christian Eriksen has set his sights on a summer move away from Ajax with Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham all showing an interest.
Despite the transfer window now being closed there will still be plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Christian Eriksen looks set for a summer move.
Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen has set his sights on a summer move away from Ajax with Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham all believed to hold an interest, according to the Daily Mail.
Eriksen has emerged as one of the most gifted young talents in Europe after breaking into the Ajax first team in 2010 aged just 17. He has gone on to make 143 appearances for the club and has already earned 31 caps for his country, so has incredible experience for his age.
The Daily Mail claims the 20-year-old has less than 18 months to run on his current contract at the Amsterdam Arena and has attracted interest from Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham in the past.
The Premier League quartet will be interested to know that Eriksen looks set for a move at the end of the season with Ajax technical director Marc Overmars confirming the playmaker has informed the club he wont be signing a new contract as he wants to ‘see what opportunities’ come up in the summer. Overmars admits that while the club would like to keep hold of the youngster, he feels Eriksen is ready to play for one of the best teams in the world.
‘Christian has informed us that he doesn’t want to sign a new contract right now,”
‘I think he and his agent want to see what opportunities present themselves this summer.
‘We want him to stay here for at least two more years, but the day he leaves us, he will be ready to play for the very best. He’s a player even the biggest clubs in the world could do with having in their squad.’ Overmars is quoted as saying by the Mail
The players agent, Martin Schoots, has confirmed the news but insists his client wants to focus on his football for the rest of the season.
‘Anything Marc or Christian have said about it is correct,’
‘But we’ve agreed that we don’t want to talk about the speculation too much.
‘Christian wants to focus solely on football and not so much on his future.’ Martin Schoots is quoted as saying by the Mail

So it appears Eriksen is going to assess his options in the summer and with only a year left on his contract come the end of the season, Ajax are going to have a decision to make. Do they cash in and get a fee while they still can, or force the player to see out the remaining year of his deal?
If they decide to sell, I can see something of a scramble for his signature. He’s a superb talent and as well as the reported interest from the Premier League, I would expect interest from all over Europe. But I’d love to see him come to England and continue his development.
