Arsenal May Miss Out On Stefan Jovetic As Man City Look To Agree Swift Deal
Arsenal could miss out on summer transfer target Stefan Jovetic with Manchester City reportedly considered as the favourites to sign the Fiorentina striker.
Despite the transfer window now being closed there will still be plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, more on the future of Stefan Jovetic.
Arsenal could miss out on summer transfer target Stefan Jovetic with Manchester City reportedly considered as favourites to sign the Fiorentina striker, according to the Daily Express.
Jovetic looked to be on his way out of Fiorentina after the arrival of Giuseppe Rossi from Villarreal and the Express claims both Arsenal and City tried to land the 23-year-old during the January window but were unable to agree a deal with the La Viola.
The Daily Mail reported last week that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had made Jovetic his number one transfer target for the summer as he looked to bring in a new striker at the end of the season.
However, the Express suggests City remain keen as well and are looking to seal a deal early in order to beat off competition for the Montenegro hitman, with the Serie A club understood to value the striker at around £26 million.
City manager Roberto Mancini has already admitted his interest in the player as he looks to replace the departed Mario Balotelli in the summer, claiming he would be a ‘good fit’. Mancini is quoted as saying by the Express:
“It is hard to find a replacement for Balotelli in January. Jovetic really interest us, he would be a good fit.
“We are moving now, because in May champions are already reserved. We are interested in Falcao, but Jovetic is also a fit.”
The newspaper suggests City will look to bring in at least one marquee signing in the summer with Carlos Tevez and Eden Dzeko likely to leave the Etihad, and it seems Jovetic could be the man to freshen up the Premier League champions attack.

If City do move for Jovetic it’s going to be extremely difficult to see Arsenal competing financially with the Manchester club in terms of both transfer fee and wages. So if I was a betting man and had to say where he would end up if he was to come to the Premier League in the summer, I would have to say he’d be wearing the blue of City rather than red of Arsenal.
