Man Utd Face Competition From Rivals To Seal Ambitious Triple Swoop
Man Utd are planning to pip their rivals with a triple swoop on Porto for three of their prized assets; namely James Rodriguez, Alex Sandro and Eliaquim Mangala.
Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Man Utd are linked with a triple swoop on Porto.
Manchester United are planning a triple swoop on Porto for three of their prized assets; namely James Rodriguez, Alex Sandro and Eliaquim Mangala, according to the Express.
Despite United holding a 15-point advantage at the top of the Premier League table to keep them well on course to sealing their 20th league title, it seems boss Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to re-shape his squad this summer.
The Express claims Ferguson is lining up a triple swoop on Portuguese giants Porto at the end of the season with his prime target understood to be winger James Rodriguez, but United will have to see-off competition from Tottenham who’re also believed to be interested in the Colombian attacker.
The newspaper suggests the champions-elect will also target centre-back Mangala but will again have to fend off interest from within the Premier League, with rivals Man City and Tottenham also tracking the 22-year-old France U-21 international.
The third name on Fergie’s radar is Brazilian left-back Sandro with the report claiming United have identified the 22-year-old as a potential long-term replacement for Patrice Evra – who has been strongly linked with a return to Ligue 1 with PSG and Monaco in the running.

It would be a stunning triple move if United were able to pull it off but they’d surely have to make room in their quality-packed squad first? Any potential move for Rodriguez may mean the end for Nani, who’s been well below par this season, while United have a wealth of talent available in the centre-back area with Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones all on the books already so it would be interesting to see where Mangala would fit in if he’s signed this summer.
All three players have been important first team players for Porto this season so it’s going to take some special negotiating skills to persuade the Portuguese outfit into selling this summer.
