Arsenal Linked With Surprise Raid On Real Madrid
Reports in Sunday’s newspapers suggest Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is weighting up a move for out-of-favour Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas this summer.
Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal are linked with a shock move for Iker Casillas.
Could Arsenal be set to make a shock move for arguably the best goalkeeper on the planet? Well the Daily Star seem to think so as they report that Arsene Wenger is weighting up a move for out-of-favour Real Madrid stopper Iker Casillas this summer.
Casillas has been at the Bernabeu for over 20 years and has been a permanent fixture in the first team since making his debut 1999, going on to make an incredible 654 appearances for the club and was installed as captain in 2011.
However, his future has come into question this season following reports of a bust up with boss Jose Mourinho and he’s struggled to break back into the first eleven since returning from a broken finger in February, with Mourinho preferring to stick with January signing Diego Lopez in goal.
The Star claim Arsenal could be ready to offer the 31-year-old an unlikely escape route this summer and suggest boss Arsene Wenger wants a ‘star name’ to come in to mentor Wojciech Szczesny next season.

While the idea of Casillas coming to Arsenal is one that makes me practically giddy with excitement, I really can’t see anything in this report. It’s highly unlikely to say the least. Casillas is Madrid through-and-through and I would be majorly shocked if he leaves this summer. It’s far more likely Mourinho will leave and Casillas will be reinstated as No.1.
Even if he was to leave, there would surely be a long list of clubs interested who could offer him far greater wages than Arsenal, so I suggest we laugh this one off and concentrate on more realistic targets.
