Schep Denies Liverpool Deal
Ajax have insisted they are yet to reach an agreement with Liverpool over the signing of play-maker Christian Eriksen but refused to deny that talks are on-going
Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Ajax have denited reports Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Christian Eriksen.
Ajax have insisted they are yet to reach an agreement with Liverpool over the signing of play-maker Christian Eriksen but refused to deny that talks are on-going, according to the Mirror.
The report claims the talented attacking midfielder has refused to sign a new deal at the Amsterdan Arena and with just 12 months remaining on his current contract, it seems likely that Eriksen will leave Ajax at the end of the season rather than be allowed to walk the following year.
The Mirror suggest that Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring the Danish international to Anfield this summer as he tries to build a squad capable of challenging for the top-four next season.
However, Ajax communications director Eefje Schep has denied any agreement has been reached with the Merseysiders over the signing of Eriksen, but he stopped short in denying negotiations are taking place.
“At this time there is no agreement between Ajax and Liverpool,”
“We will send out a press release when there is an agreement, only a deal between Ajax and the club.
“Whether we negotiate or not, we do not comment on transfer rumours.
“Right now Christian Eriksen is focused on very important games we have to play at the end of the season.” Schep is quoted as saying in the Mirror
Ajax’s denial comes shortly after director of football, Marc Overmars, confirmed that Eriksen won’t be signing a new contract at the club and is keen to assess his options this summer.
“Christian has informed us that he won’t be signing a new deal with us at this time.
“I think that he and his agent will want to see what options are available in the summer.” Overmars is quoted as saying in the Mirror.
Eriksen has emerged as one of the brightest talents in Europe since breaking into the Ajax first team in January 2010, and he has gone on to score 22 goals and provide 39 assists in his 105 league appearances so far.
However, it seems his time in Holland may be coming to an end and I’m sure many Liverpool fans would like to see him lighting up Anfield next season.
