Arsenal Decide To Appeal Olivier Giroud’s Red Card

Arsenal have announced on Arsenal.com that they have decided to appeal the red card shown to striker Olivier Giroud’s during Saturday’s 1-0 win over Fulham.
With the ninety-minutes almost up and Arsenal hanging on to a precious three points, Giroud was dismissed for what looked to be an over the ball tackle on Fulham defender Stanislav Manolev as the pair went for a lose ball.
However, replay’s later showed the Frenchman had slipped just before making the challenge and the Gunners have now decided they have grounds for appeal and hope to have the 3-match ban rescinded.
The appeal for wrongful dismissal has now been lodged and the FA are due to make their verdict on Tuesday afternoon. The club announced on the official website:
Arsenal Football Club have lodged an appeal to the Football Association for the wrongful dismissal of Olivier Giroud during the Premier League match against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
An FA regulatory commission will hear the claim and make a verdict on Tuesday afternoon.
Should the FA uphold the red card, Giroud would miss our next three league games against Manchester United, QPR and Wigan which would be a blow to our hopes of finishing in the top-four this season. With very little back up in the striking department, Giroud’s absence could be the difference between qualifying for the Champions League and playing on a Thursday night next season. Let’s see what the FA says but I’m not holding my breath….
