Agent Claims Dortmund Striker Wont Be Heading To Man Utd This Summer
Robert Lewandowski’s agent has poured cold water on suggestions the striker could be set to leave Borussia Dortmund for Manchester United at the end of the season
Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Robert Lewandowski doesn’t look likely to join Man Utd this summer.
Robert Lewandowski’s agent has poured cold water on suggestions the striker could be set to leave Borussia Dortmund for Manchester United this summer, according to the Guardian.
Lewandowski has become one of Europe’s most desired strikers after scoring 74 goals in 132 games for Dortmund since moving from Lech Poznan in 2010, including a stunning four-goal display against Real Madrid in the semi-final’s of the Champions League last week.
The Guardian claims Lewandowski has just one year to go on his Dortmund contract and has made it clear he won’t be signing an extension, leading to speculation over his future this summer with Manchester United strongly linked a move.
The newly-crowned Premier League champions have been boosted with the news that his agent, Maik Barthel, has admitted the Polish hitman would like to try his luck in the Premier League, however he also claims that will be at some point in the future and he doesn’t think the ‘future’ will be this summer.
“I can tell you only one thing – Robert is interested in the future coming to the Premier League. The Premier League is very interesting for Robert. How long is the future, I cannot say to you. I think this summer is not the future.” Barthel is quoted as saying by the Guardian.
Sir Alex Ferguson had admitted he would like to add the 24-year-old striker to his squad and believes Dortmund will refuse to sell him to Bayern Munich following the sale of Mario Gotze to their rivals. When asked about his interest in Lewandowski, Fergie said:
“If the right player comes along you have to be prepared to make a move. I can find room for anybody here as long as they have the required quality. I am not sure Lewandowski will be sold to Bayern now. The Dortmund fans are not going to be happy and I don’t think they will sell to their main rivals. I think they will either let his contract run out, or sell him somewhere else.” Ferguson is quoted as saying by the Guardian
Dortmund could yet force the player to see-out the remaining year of his contract meaning he’ll be free to move wherever he likes next summer, but that may lead to the striker following Gotze to Munich, so it may make more sense for the club to sell this summer when they will be able to have more control over his next destination – as well as demand a sizable transfer fee – which could leave United in a strong position.
