Rodgers Demand’s £8.5m Youngster In Exchange For Reina
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will demand Barcelona attacker Christian Tello in any deal that involves goalkeeper Pepe Reina moving to the Nou Camp this summer
With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Liverpool are linked with a swap deal with Barcelona.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will demand Barcelona attacker Christian Tello in any deal that involves goalkeeper Pepe Reina moving to the Nou Camp this summer, according to the Mirror.
The report claims Barcelona have identified Reina as a prime target in their search for a replacement for Victor Valdes – who’s expected to leave the club at the end of the season – and are prepared to pay £10m to bring the 30-year-old back to Spain this summer.
Reina came through the Barca youth academy and made his first team debut aged just 18 but failed to make the grade and was soon shipped off to Villarreal where he starred for three years before making the move to Merseyside in 2005.
The Mirror suggest Rodgers is keen to hang on to the Spanish stopper and will only be prepared to do business if the Catalans include impressive forward Tello in any deal, with the youngster understood to have an £8.5m buy-out in his contract.
Tello is a Spain under-21 international who can operate anywhere across the front line so would give Liverpool plenty of options in attack if he was to make the move to Anfield. The 21-year-old has made just 11 league starts this campaign and although he’s managed to score an impressive 7 goals, he’s been unable to cement himself as a first team regular so could be tempted by a switch to Anfield in search of regular football ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
