Transfer News: Arsenal Table Bid For Defender | Liverpool’s £20m Move In Doubt
Latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal have made a £2.5m bid for defender Benjamin Mendy and Liverpool’s move for midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is now in doubt
With the summer transfer window set to open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal have made a £2.5m bid for Benjamin Mendy and Liverpool’s move for Henrikh Mkhitaryan is now in doubt.
Arsenal table Mendy bid
First up and the Daily Mail are reporting today that Arsenal have made a £2.5m bid for Le Harve left-back Benjamin Mendy but will have to dig a little deeper if they want to sign the talented youngster.
The report claims the Gunners have been tracking the 18-year-old since he first signed a professional contract with Le Harve back in the summer of 2011, and after keeping a close eye on his development it seems Arsene Wenger has decided to make his move with a £2.5m offer.
However, the Mail claim the north Londoners will have to double that bid if they’re to persuade Le Harve to sell the French youth international, and they face stiff competition from Juventus, Sunderland, Cardiff and Lyon who are also interested in the defender.
Mkhitaryan move in doubt
Next up and the Express report that Liverpool’s move for Henrikh Mkhitaryan is in major doubt after the Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder claimed he will ‘fulfill’ his current contract.
The newspaper claims that the Reds have been considered as favourites to sign the highly talented Armenian international this summer with speculation last week even suggesting he was set for a medical on Merseyside after Liverpool agreed to pay around £20m for his services.
However, those reports proved inaccurate and now Mkhitaryan has cast further doubt on a proposed move to Anfield after taking to his official Facebook page to insist he is willing to fulfill his contract with Shakhtar.
“I am happy to see that people show keen interest in my career but I would like to ask all not only to refrain from making comments but also to prevent the spread of unverified and false information.
“I am not meddling with these affairs. If have a contract with a club, I just fulfil it.” Mkhitaryan is quoted as saying on his Facebook page by the Express.
While the Express suggest these comments put the proposed move to Liverpool ‘in doubt’, I would say that the player is simply trying to play down any talk of a move so he doesn’t get on the wrong side of his current employers. Liverpool can also take heart by reports suggesting the midfielder has gone AWOL, so I wouldn’t give up just yet LFC fans, I still think there could be a deal to be had here. Watch this space….
