football news

This is the question we all ask ourselves: who will triumph this time? Every year there is a champion. Every season there is a winner whose consistency and superior form were able to secure the title. Last year, Manchester United clinched the Premiership trophy. They were crowned champions nearly a month before the end of the campaign. Their victory left other clubs devastated. Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham lost the race. Their loss led them to decide one thing: they had to turn the tables around.

Tottenham

Tottenham had a fantastic season last term. Although they were unable to secure a place in the Champions League, this will not discourage them from trying to make it happen next season. A big factor for their recent success was undoubtedly their gaffer: AVB. Villas-Boas is a smart young manager, and he knows exactly what he is doing. He wouldn’t rule out the chance of winning the league and he has ambitions to make it happen soon. Of course, he’s not the only man to watch next season. Gareth Bale was outstanding last year, and he is the crown jewel of Tottenham Hotspur. If he leaves White Hart Lane, Spurs will have a lot of cash to spend this summer. Should he commit with his employers for an additional year, Tottenham will certainly have a chance of putting together a title challenge if they can add to the Welshman’s brilliance with a few key signings.

Arsenal

Arsenal have seen success slip through their fingers in recent years. It has been eight years, one month and five days since Arsenal last won a trophy. There have been quite a lot of jokes about that, and the Gunners are desperate to get back on their feet. Next season, their chances for Premier League success are high as it looks like boss Arsene Wenger has been backed financially by the club. He doesn’t have to just count on promising young players. He doesn’t have to count on new unknown players. Arsene Wenger will finally spend big this summer, and that could turn the north Londoners back into genuine title-contenders again.

Chelsea

Chelsea had another average season in the league. Despite their superb display in the Europe League, the Blues are yet to find domestic glory since they lifted the league title three years ago when they massacred Wigan Athletic 8-0. They were then led by the likes of Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Michael Ballack. Now, their team has been rejuvenated through the emergence of talented young guns like Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and David Luiz. This fresh and exciting team is longing to have their hands on the title. Next season, they might have the chance to finally win it, and there is one man who can help them. They will be trained and managed by a man who put Chelsea in the history books. The Premiership will witness the return of The Special One: Jose Mourinho. This could be the most important ‘signing’ of the summer.

Manchester City

Manchester City experienced a frustrating campaign last season as they relinquished the title they fought so hard to win. Again, they failed to qualify for the knockout rounds in the Champions League and they also lost the FA Cup final against relegated Wigan Athletic. Most of all, they finished second in the league behind their arch rivals Manchester United. Manchester City are ready to do anything to get back their title. They sacked Mancini, and they’ve already started signing a handful of expensive players. However, there is one thing that will provoke City to ask their title back: Redemption.

Manchester United

Next season, Manchester United are the defending champions once again. They will start a new season with a new manager for the first time in 26 years. There is no guarantee that they will be able to overcome the loss of Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes has a huge task on his hands. Other clubs will take advantage of the instability that hit Old Trafford this summer. However, while Fergie has moved up stairs, United still have a strong squad and let’s not forget they won the title by 11 points, so they are more than capable of defending their trophy.

One thing is certain, we’re all expecting another hectic season. Who knows what the league could have in store for us, but next season is promising a lot of excitement, a lot of drama and will be full of surprises. Enjoy the ride.
