Latest transfer rumours. Today, Tottenham are linked with a move for Wigan’s £20m-rated midfielder James McCarthy and Liverpool are closing in on Aly Cissokho.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Tottenham are linked with a move for James McCarthy and Liverpool are closing in on Aly Cissokho.
Spurs eye McCarthy
First up and the Mirror are reporting that Tottenham want to sign Wigan midfielder James McCarthy but are refusing to pay the Championship clubs £20m asking price.
The report claims boss Andre Villas-Boas is a huge fan of the 22-year-old’s and is keen to take him to White Hart Lane despite the recent signing of Paulinho. However, the north Londoners are believed to be baulking at the Latics valuation and will try and tempt Owen Coyle by including a number of fringe players in a player-plus-cash deal.
The Mirror suggest Spurs are willing to offer Harry Kane as well as other up-and-coming youngsters to Wigan as well as a cash sum in the region of £12m in exchange for McCarthy, but whether such a deal will appeal to Coyle remains to be seen.
The Republic of Ireland midfielder has been in excellent form during pre-season but the newspaper claims he’s keen on a move to north London and has even been house hunting in the capital this summer.
Liverpool close on Cissokho
Next up and the Express are reporting that Liverpool are close to securing the signing of Valencia left-back Aly Cissokho on an initial season-long loan deal.
The Reds have been linked with the Frenchman in the past and it seems Brendan Rodgers has finally got his man after beating Sunderland to the 25-year-old’s signature, with the report claiming Liverpool will pay a fee of £900,000 to take Cissokho on loan for 12 months at which point they’ll then have the chance to make the move permanent for a further £3.5m.
Cissokho has only been with Valencia for one season after making the move from Lyon last summer but he’s struggled to settle in Spain and will now be given the chance to revitalise his career at Anfield and will go head-to-head with Jose Enrique for the left-back slot.
