Liverpool Eye £13m-Rated Defender To Replace Napoli Target Martin Skrtel
Liverpool have renewed their interest in Schalke’s £13m-rated defender Kryiakos Papadopoulos as Napoli eye a loan move for Martin Skrtel, according to reports.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Liverpool could be set to shake up their defensive options.
Liverpool have renewed their interest in Schalke’s £13m-rated defender Kryiakos Papadopoulos as Napoli eye a loan move for Martin Skrtel, according to the Daily Mail.
Brendan Rodgers was strongly linked with a move for Papadopoulos earlier in the summer and a deal was though to be close before a knee ligament injury ruled the 21-year-old out for up to 8 weeks and seemingly dashed his hopes of making a big-money move to Anfield this summer.
However, the defender has returned to training sooner than expected and the Mail claim Liverpool have now renewed their interest and will be keen to secure a £13m deal as long as the Greek international passes a rigorous medical examination.
Papadopoulos’s arrival could spell the end for Martin Skrtel with the newspaper claiming that Napoli are interested in signing the Solvakian centre-back on an initial loan deal.
The Italians are thought to be reluctant to sign him on a permanent basis due to the 28-year-old’s wages demands but he could follow Pepe Reina in making a short-term move to Naples if a loan fee can be agreed between the two clubs.
Skrtel fell out-of-favour under Rodgers last season and he spent the majority of the second half of the season on the bench, so a move to Italy could be what he needs to rejuvenate his career.
