After another enthralling weekend of Premier League action, Rayyan Dabbous looks over how Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City, Tottenham and Liverpool got on.
Chelsea
The Blues earned a point at White Hart Lane after a decent second half against Tottenham. Jose Mourinho’s men have shown patience in the game even after conceding an early goal. They reorganized themselves in the second half and it was their captain John Terry who headed the ball in to score an equalizer past Hugo Lloris. Chelsea are currently 4th in the Premiership table and they are looking to bounce back in Europe on Tuesday night after a dreadful defeat against Basel. The Blues have certainly picked themselves up after losing against Everton a couple weeks ago and if they earn 6 points from their next opponents Norwich and Cardiff they will be right back in the mix for the title.
Manchester City
The Citizens competed in an enthralling game against Aston Villa on Saturday that saw 5 goals. They lost the game despite having taken the lead before half time. Yaya Toure scored his fourth goal of the season while Edin Dzeko hit his second as both increased City’s season tally to 14 league goals. Manchester City have 10 points from 6 games which leaves them in 6th place. It was evident during the game that Pellegrini had other plans in mind: Bayern Munich. The Manchester club will face the Champions League winners next week and a triumph will certainly give them a boost ahead of their away game against Everton next weekend.
Tottenham
Spurs have been enjoying their league campaign so far: losing only 1 game in 6 fixtures. A draw against Chelsea was satisfying as they look to solidify their place in the top 4. They are 3rd in the table: having equal points with second-placed Liverpool. Their in-form Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson opened the scoring on Saturday as he notched up his third league goal. Tottenham have a couple of ‘easy’ games coming up including home games against West Ham and Hull City and if they can maintain their form over the next few weeks, a title challenge could certainly be on.
Liverpool
The Reds bounced back after losing against Southampton last week with a 3-1 victory against bottom club Sunderland on Sunday. Daniel Sturridge has appeared once again on the score sheet with a first half goal. Also, Luiz Suarez enjoyed his Premier League comeback with a double: making the headlines; this time for the right reasons! The Merseyside club was knocked out of the Capital One Cup last week, and since they aren’t competing in Europe this season, their ultimate focus is the Premiership. They are currently placed second in the table and their are noises coming out of Anfield that this could finally be the year they get their hands on the prestigious Premiership title.
Manchester United
The Red Devils suffered a shocking defeat against West Brom on Saturday. Two splendid goals from Berahino and Amalfitano secured the visitors all 3 points at Old Trafford. United are going through their worst league start in 27 years: picking up only 7 points from 6 games. David Moyes’ job may not be in jeopardy but it is evident that if United don’t pick themselves soon, they might not even see a top 4 finish this season. Something that would have been unthinkable under the tenure of Sir Alex.
Arsenal
Certainly the Premier League’s best club so far, Arsenal have been in great form since losing their opening game against Villa – which remains their only defeat. The London side outplayed Swansea City in Wales on Saturday with a deserving 2-1 victory. Their inform man Aaron Ramsey remains in the headlines as he scored his 8th goal in all competitions for the Gunners. Arsenal are at the top of the league table and it seems they are finally ready to mount a serious title challenge as they look to end their trophy drought.
