Liverpool Injury Update: Rodgers Gives Latest On Johnson, Coutinho, Cissokho & More

Liverpool welcome Cystal Palace to Anfield on Saturday looking to reclaim top spot in the Premier League table. Here’s an injury update ahead of the game.

Liverpool welcome Crystal Palace to Anfield on Saturday looking to reclaim top spot in the Premier League table.

Ahead of the game, boss Brendan Rodgers has given Liverpoolfc.com a team news and injury update with the latest on Glen Johnson, Philippe Coutinho, Aly Cissokho, Joe Allen and Sebastian Coates’ fitness.

Johnson has been on the sidelines nursing an ankle sprain since picking up the problem against Manchester United back in early September, but Rodgers is hopeful the defender will be back in full training following the upcoming international break.

Cissohko, who’s on a season long loan deal from Valencia, has been out since injuring his ankle in the Capital One Cup clash with Notts County at the end of August while midfielder Joe Allen picked up a hamstring injury in the same game, and Rodgers is again hopeful the duo will be available for selection when the Reds reconvene after next weeks break.

Coutinho was ruled out for up to six weeks after undergoing a shoulder operation last month and Rodgers has confirmed the Brazilian playmaker should be back towards the end of October, but Coates is still some way from returning after being ruled out for much of the season with a knee injury.

Here’s what the Reds boss told the clubs official website:

“Glen’s out on the field and hopefully after the international break he’ll be ready to come back into the squad.

“We’re okay. Aly Cissokho has trained over the course of the last week or so, so I think after the international break he’ll be fine and fit. Joe Allen likewise – he should be ready for the Newcastle game.

“Glen Johnson and Coutinho will not be long after.

“Obviously Sebastian Coates will be that bit longer and has a bit more to do yet, but apart from that we’re getting back to our numbers now.”
