Arsenal have been handed a huge injury blow ahead of their clash with Liverpool at the Emirates tonight with reports claiming Jack Wilshere has been ruled out with an ankle injury.
In what’s going to be a pivotal week for the Gunners where they face Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United, the last thing Arsene Wenger needed was another injury to contend with.
However, Goal are reporting on Saturday morning that Wilshere has aggravated his troublesome ankle injury and will not even be considered for a place among the subs this evening.
The midfielder’s career has been dogged by a series of injuries to both ankles over the past 24 months but surgery in the summer was meant to have resolved the problems once and for all.
But the 21-year-old has continued to struggle this season with his right ankle in particular flaring up in training and after games, and boss Wenger confirmed last week that he’s still got to be cautious over how to use the midfielder.
Wilshere was left on the bench for last weeks 2-0 win over Crystal Palace before starting against Chelsea in midweek and it appears he’s suffered a re-occurrence of an injury to his right ankle once again and Wenger’s in no mood to take any risks with him.
Arsenal will likely see how the ankle responds to rest this weekend before assessing his involvement against Dortmund on Wednesday, but with Mathieu Flamini, Theo Walcott, Lukas Podolski, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Abou Diaby already out injured, Wilshere’s loss will be a body blow as the north Londoners prepare to entertain third-placed Liverpool.
