Arsenal have been handed a major injury boost ahead of their trip to Old Trafford on Sunday with the Guardian reporting that winger Theo Walcott is in line to return to the squad.

The 24-year-old has been on the sidelines since requiring minor surgery on an abdominal injury that he picked up before the Stoke City game in late September. He was due back after the last international break in October but had a set back in training which ruled him out for a further two weeks and he’s missed the Gunners last 10 games as a result.

However, the former Southampton youngster has been training well recently and while tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund will come too soon, the Guardian claim he’s going to step up his work on the training pitch this week with a view to playing a part against Manchester United this weekend.

Walcott’s return would be a huge boost to Arsene Wenger, who’s had to deal with a number of injuries to key players so far this season.

Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs are the latest names to be sidelined with both expected to miss the trip to Germany on Wednesday with ankle and calf injuries, which will make them a doubt to face United.

The pair will join Mathieu Flamini, Lukas Podolski, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Abou Diaby and Yaya Sanogo on the treatment table but Walcott’s availability could be just the tonic Arsenal need as they head to Old Trafford hoping to extend their lead over the champions to 11 points.
