Liverpool Team News & Injury Update: Rodgers Gives Latest On Johnson & Enrique

Liverpool welcome Fulham to Anfield on Saturday looking to close the gap on league leaders Arsenal.

Ahead of the game, boss Brendan Rodgers has been speaking to the media and he gave Liverpoolfc.com a team news and injury update with the latest on the fitness of defender Glen Johnson and Jose Enrique.

Enrique has been missing for over a month with a niggling knee injury but he is back in full training and Rodgers is hopeful the 27-year-old will come through a late fitness test to be in contention against the Cottagers this weekend.

“We’re just waiting on Jose,”

“He has trained and his knee is much better so we’ll be hoping he will be available for the weekend.

“That’s something we’ll assess in the next 24 hours. It will be great to have Jose back.” Rodgers told liverpoolfc.com

Fellow defender Johnson has also had his fair share of injury problems to deal with this season and the right-back was forced to sit out last weeks defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates due to an infection in his jaw.

Johnson was ruled out just before the game and had to go to hospital to rectify the problem, but Rodgers has confirmed he’s been back in training this week and is fit to face Martin Jol’s men tomorrow.

He told the official website:

“Glen Johnson will be fit,”

“He’s fine. He’s trained this week – it was just one of those peculiar things that happened.

“Maybe if it had been a day earlier, he may have been able to play.

“But he’s fine for the game and has looked good in training this week.”

Liverpool head into the weekend action sitting fourth in the Premier League table but will hope to move to within two points of Arsenal ahead of the north Londoners clash with Manchester United on Sunday.
