[Player Ratings] Arsenal 2-0 Marseille: Wilshere Back To His Best
Arsenal eased past Marseille 2-0 at the Emirates to inch closer to qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League. Here are my player ratings.
Arsenal eased past Marseille 2-0 at the Emirates on Tuesday night to inch closer to securing qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Here are my ratings from the game:
Szczesny 7.5/10
Had very little to do until he pulled off two excellent saves to deny Thuavin late on to ensure another clean sheet.
Sagna 6.5/10
Solid game from the Frenchman. Did everything asked of him and got forward but his delivery was a little below par.
Monreal 7.5/10
The Spaniard has been forced to play second fiddle to Kieran Gibbs but slotted in seamlessly at left-back and showed he’s a more than able deputy. Great display. Excellent clearance off the line when it was still 1-0.
Mertesacker 7/10
He’ll have harder games ahead but the German still marshalled the awkward threat of Gignac well.
Koscielny 7/10
Like his defensive partner, Kos had a pretty comfortable evening but was still rock solid when called upon.
Flamini 6.5/10
Quietly went about his business in the middle of the park and managed to get through an entire game without picking up a yellow card!
Ramsey 7.5/10
The Welshman was back to his all-action best. He made countless tackles and was up and down the pitch all night long. He will be disappointed he didn’t finish off a simple chance in the first half, but otherwise excellent and won the penalty with a nice bit of skill.
Wilshere 8.5/10
Arguably Wilshere’s best display of the season. He was a constant threat, drifting in from the right side and opened the scoring with a stunning goal. Was on hand to score the second, getting two goals in a game for the first time in his career. Getting back to his best.
Ozil 7/10
A mixed evening for the German. He looked to be in first gear until his poor penalty was saved, then he seemed to perk up a bit. Set up Wilshere for the second goal and went close a couple of times himself. Still feel there is a lot more to come from him.
Rosicky 7/10
Decent shift from the Czech international. His driving runs added pace to some of our lackluster attacks but he faded a little after the break before he was subbed.
Giroud 7/10
A quieter game compared to his outing against Southampton but he was still a handful for the opposition defence.
Subs:
Walcott 6/10 – Missed a good late chance to get himself a goal.
Cazorla 6/10 – Showed some nice touches and used the ball well.
Arteta N/A – On too late.
