Arsenal saw off Cardiff City 3-0 on Saturday afternoon to move seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table. Aaron Ramsey hit the headlines once again with a well taken brace against his boyhood club but Mesut Ozil deserves recognition for contributing assists for the first two goals of the game.
Here are my ratings from the game:
Szczesny 8/10
Another world class display. He made a stunning save low to his right from a close range Campbell header to keep the score at 1-0. Proved to be a key moment in the game and followed it up with another couple of decent stops.
Sagna 6.5/10
A routine performance from the Frenchman. Went about his business, was a threat going forward in the first half and did his bit at the back when the hosts put us under some pressure after the break.
Gibbs 6/10
Was booked for a rash challenge in the first half and should have done better to prevent Campbell getting a free header at goal, but otherwise OK.
Mertesacker 7/10
Another solid display from the German. Took a nasty head to the face from his team mate Sagna in the first half but got up and soldiered on.
Koscielny 7/10
His pace was important in shutting out the dangerous Campbell on a couple of occasions. Helped marshal the side to yet another clean sheet.
Arteta 8/10
Excellent display from Mikel. He battled hard in the middle of the park and came out on top more often than not. Was an important figure in front of the defence.
Ramsey 9/10
Running out of things to say. Yet another MOTM performance and two more goals to his name. The first was a well-placed header and the second was more typical of Ramsey, slamming home from 12 yards. Was even applauded by the home fans. Stunning season continues.
Wilshere 6.5/10
Quiet game from Jack. He almost scored in the first minute again but saw a curled effort come back off the post but we saw little from him after that. Looked tired after starting three games on the bounce.
Ozil 8/10
Drifts in and out the game but you can’t deny the effect he has on the team in terms of creating goal-scoring opportunities. Another two sublime assists in an effortless performance.
Cazorla 6.5/10
Below par from the Spaniard. Saw a lot of the ball in the first half but faded badly in the second when the home side came back into it before our late double.
Giroud 6.5/10
Frustrating performance from striker. Nothing really went his way. Bizarrely wasted a golden opportunity to open the scoring as he stopped when clean through on goal assuming he was offside, despite there being no flag and no whistle.
Subs:
Flamini 7.5/10
Thunderous finish from the Frenchman to seal the win.
Monreal 6/10
No real impact.
Walcott 7/10
Only on for 5 minutes but grabbed an assist.
