Manchester United manager David Moyes has given an update on the fitness of Robin van Persie, with the Scot insisting the strikers groin problem is nothing serious.
Van Persie hasn’t featured since scoring the winner against former club Arsenal almost a month ago with a niggling groin problem keeping him on the sidelines for longer than expected.
The 30-year-old withdrew from the Holland squad for their two friendlies last month due to the injury and he was only thought to be out of action for a week or so.
However, the Dutchman has missed United’s last four outings and while Moyes told the clubs official website that he doesn’t know an exact comeback date for the striker, he insists the injury isn’t a serious one.
“I don’t know [when Robin will return], we’ve been trying to get him back for a few weeks.
“But he is not ready yet. It’s his groin. It’s a sore groin injury and nothing desperately serious.”
With Wayne Rooney suspended for this weekend’s visit of Newcastle United to Old Trafford, Moyes will be desperate to get RVP back on the pitch to help end a three-game win-less streak that’s seen the defending champions slip to ninth in the Premier League table.
But judging by his latest update, it doesn’t sound like the former Gunner will be back firing on Saturday.
