Rodgers Opens Up On His Plans For The January Transfer Window
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has spoken out about his plans for the January transfer window and insists he is looking to bring in the ‘right type of player’
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has spoken out about his plans for the upcoming January transfer window and insists he is only looking to bring in the ‘right type of player’, according to Liverpoolfc.com.
The Reds were one of the real winners of last years winter window when they brought in Philippe Coutinho from Inter Milan and Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea, with Rodgers describing their signings are ‘remarkable’ pieces of business.
The attacking duo proved to be an instant hit at Anfield and have gone on to become important parts of the first team, and Rodgers is keen to try and recreate that success by signing the ‘right type of player’ once again next month.
The Northern Irishman is confident the clubs owners will back him if the right player becomes available who can strengthen the team, but warned those players aren’t easy to find in January. He told the clubs official website:
“It’s not just about getting them, it’s what’s available that can improve you,”
“Everyone knows that January is a difficult window. We did a remarkable piece of business last January in Coutinho and Sturridge.
“What I know is that if there is a player or players out there that will improve our team, I know the owners will support that. They have been outstanding for me.
“It’s just on the availability of the right type of player, and that has to be a player than can come into the team and improve us.”
The Merseysiders could be in the market for more options in midfield and attack following long-term injuries to both Daniel Sturridge and Steven Gerrard, and it appears Rodgers is ready to spend if the right player becomes available.
However, Liverpool approach the mid-season point sitting second in the Premier League after an excellent start to the new campaign, so while Rodgers may be keen on strengthening certain areas of his squad, he’ll also be cautious not to rock the boat too much and buy for the sake of it.
