Liverpool entertain Hull City at Anfield on New Year’s Day looking to get their title challenge back on track after a disappointing week.
The Reds slumped from the top of the table to fifth following back-to-back 2-1 away defeats at Manchester City and Chelsea over the festive period to leave them trailing leaders Arsenal by six points, so the Merseysiders will be hoping for a win over the Tigers to boost their title hopes.
Brendan Rodgers men have an excellent record on home soil having won eight of their nine games at Anfield this season, so should be confident of picking up the three points on Wednesday.
However, they will face a Hull side that should be brimming with confidence following their 6-0 demolition of Fulham at the weekend, which has left them sitting comfortably 10th in the table after an excellent return to top flight football.
Steve Bruce’s men also won the reverse fixture 3-1 at the KC Stadium at the start of the month, so Liverpool will be out for revenge tomorrow afternoon.
Team News
Liverpool are expected to welcome back captain Steven Gerrard after he returned to training following a hamstring injury that’s seen him sit out the last three weeks.
Gerrard should replace Joe Allen in the side after the midfielder was ruled out with an abductor injury while Mamadou Sakho is also out with a hamstring strain.
The good news is that Jordan Henderson is likely to be passed fit despite picking up a knock at Stamford Bridge on Sunday while Victor Moses is available again having been ineligible to face his parent club.
Daniel Sturridge, Jose Enrique and Jon Flanangan all remain sidelined through injury.
Hull have no fresh injury worries heading into the game. Sone Aluko is still out with a calf injury and is on the sidelines along with Robbie Brady and Stephen Quinn.
However, David Meyler could return to the bench after missing the Fulham game with a knee injury. Steve Bruce is expected to stick with the same 11 that won so convincingly at the weekend.
Likely Line-Ups
Key Man
Luis Suarez: The striker was unable to find the target against Chelsea but he’s been devastating at Anfield this season and we’d expect him to be back among the goals tomorrow.
Predicted Score
Liverpool 3-0 Hull City: The Reds are excellent at home and we can see them seeing off the threat of Hull with relative ease.
