Lucas Leiva has handed Liverpool a timely injury boost after confirming that his knee injury isn’t as serious as being reported and he should be back in a ‘few weeks’.
The Brazilian midfielder was forced off against Aston Villa during Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Anfield after hearing a ‘click’ in his right knee following a clash with Fabian Delph midway through the second half.
Boss Brendan Rodgers was initially hopeful that the injury wasn’t serious but it was widely reported in the national newspapers on Tuesday morning that Leiva was set for two months on the sidelines after apparently damaging the medical collateral ligament in his knee.
However, it appears those reports were wide of the mark with the 27-year-old taking to his official Twitter account on Wednesday night to play down those fears, claiming the injury isn’t serious and he’ll be back within a few weeks.
I would like to let you know that my injury isn't serious and I will be back in a few weeks.
Thanks

The news will come as a huge relief to Rodgers as another lengthy injury to one of his key men would be a massive blow in what’s going to be a decisive few weeks in the Reds hunt for a top-four finish.
Liverpool currently sit fourth in the Premier League table after 22 games and with games against Everton, Arsenal and Manchester United coming up, Rodgers will want as many of his players available as possible. Leiva may be just short to face their Mersey rivals on the 28th January, but he should be fit to face the Gunners on the 8th of February.
