Arsenal Team News: Wenger Offers Update On Ramsey, Wilshere, Rosicky & More
Arsenal entertain Crystal Palace at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon. Here’s the team news including the latest on Jack Wilshere, Tomas Rosicky and Aaron Ramsey
Arsenal entertain Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon looking to get back to winning ways after being held to a 2-2 draw by Southampton on Tuesday night.
Ahead of the game, boss Arsene Wenger has given Arsenal.com a team news update with the latest on the fitness of Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky.
The trio all missed the trip to the south coast on Tuesday and Wenger has confirmed that Wilshere will once again be missing this weekend as he continues to recovery from an ankle knock sustained against Coventry last week. However, there is a chance the midfielder will be available to face Liverpool next weekend.
News of a set back to Ramsey broke shortly after the Saints clash and Wenger has revealed the Welshman will be out for ‘some weeks’ after aggravating his thigh injury in training on Monday. The loss of Rambo is a huge blow, particularly as we’ve got some pivotal games coming up.
Mathieu Flamini was sent off late on against Southampton and it had been reported that he’d be suspended for four games after already serving a ban earlier in the season. However, Wenger confirmed on Arsenal.com that the Frenchman would only be banned for three games meaning he’ll miss our matches against Palace, Liverpool and Manchester United.
There is some good news on the injury front with Rosicky set to return to the squad this weekend after suffering problems following surgery on his broken nose.
Here’s what the boss told the clubs official website:
on Wilshere (ankle)…
We have good news. For Sunday he will be short but he has a chance to be available for the week after at Liverpool.
on Ramsey (thigh)…
Ramsey will be out for longer because he had a setback and it doesn’t look too good. It is matter of some weeks for him.
on any other ins or outs…
Not from Southampton, we have no problems apart from Flamini who we lose through suspension. Everybody else should be available. We could have Rosicky back again for Sunday. He had problems after surgery on his nose. So we lose Flamini but we gain Rosicky.
So the squad for the Palace game will be the same with the exception of Rosicky replacing Flamini. The Czech international will battle it out with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for a starting spot alongside Mikel Arteta on Sunday with Ramsey and Wilshere both absent through injury.
Perhaps we could see both start with The Ox in the middle and Rosicky out on the right wing, as Serge Gnabry has started the last four games and could do with a rest. Otherwise it will likely be much the same team with Kieran Gibbs potentially coming in for Nacho Monreal at left back.
