Arsenal entertain Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening looking to get their title challenge back on track.
Ahead of the game Arsene Wenger has been speaking to the press at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday morning and gave Arsenal.com a team news and injury update including the latest on Yaya Sanogo, Aaron Ramsey and Thomas Vermaelen.
The good news is that forgotten striker Yaya Sanogo is available again after recovering from a back injury. The 21-year-old only moved to Arsenal in the summer and managed a single cameo appearance for the first team in August before a back problem ruled him out for the last five months.
However, Sanogo returned to training last month and came through a reserve match for the under-21’s last week unscathed, and Wenger has now confirmed the young striker is fit and available, although he’s still unlikely to make the squad tomorrow.
The Gunners boss confirmed that captain Thomas Vermaelen remains out with a knee injury that he picked up against Tottenham in early January, while Aaron Ramsey is also still nursing a thigh injury and is on the sidelines with the likes of Theo Walcott, Kim Kallstrom and Abou Diaby.
Here is what Wenger told the clubs official website:
on the team news…
We have no injuries from Saturday and we have Sanogo available as well. Everybody else should be available for [the United game]. As well there are no comebacks, people like Vermaelen, Ramsey are still out.
Arsenal will be looking to bounce back from their 5-1 mauling by Liverpool at the weekend which saw them slip to second in the Premier League table following Chelsea’s win over Newcastle, and they face a United side that will be reeling from conseeding a last minute equaliser to Fulham on Sunday.
