An uninspiring game at the Emirates ended in a 0-0 draw as Arsenal and Manchester United cancelled each other out on Wednesday night.
Here are the Football-Talk ratings:
Arsenal
Szczesny 8/10
Did well to keep Van Persie out in the first minute and pulled off a stunning one handed save to prevent his former team-mate grabbing a late winner.
Sagna 7/10
Decent shift from the dependable Frenchman and kept the threat of Mata quiet.
Gibbs 7/10
Back in the team after a three-week absence and was impressive in defence and attack.
Mertesacker 7/10
Back to his old self after a rare blip on Saturday. Kept van Persie quiet.
Koscielny 7.5/10
Made a couple of excellent tackles and almost grabbed a goal but his header was cleared off the line.
Wilshere 5/10
Well off the pace. He lost possession on numerous occasions and lost out in the midfield battle.
Arteta 6.5/10
Got away with an early error after losing possession on the edge of his box but recovered well to control the midfield, making an impressive 5 tackles and 6 interceptions.
Rosicky 6/10
Failed to create a lot in the final third but he always puts a shift in for the team.
Cazorla 7/10
Almost got on the score-sheet but saw his two efforts well saved by De Gea.
Ozil 7.5/10
A much-improved display from the German and he was always looking to make things happen.
Giroud 5/10
Missed a great early chance to get on the score-sheet but glanced a header wide. He looked jaded at times and a little off the pace. Clearly in need of a break.
Subs:
Oxlade-Chamberlain – 5/10 – Didn’t really make an impact.
Man Utd
De Gea 7.5/10
Made a couple of great saves to deny Cazorla late on.
Rafeal 6.5/10
Was doing well until he was forced off at half time after landing awkwardly on his head/neck.
Smalling 7/10
Solid display and showed his versatility when he was forced to switch to right back in the second half.
Vidic 8/10
Back to his best form as he kept the hosts at bay with countless clearances and headers. Was lucky not to give away a penalty though for a shove on Giroud.
Evra 6.5/10
Coped reasonably well with the threat of Rosicky and Sagna but could have got himself forward more.
Valencia 6/10
Looked dangerous early on but his threat faded during the second half. Was on hand to head Koscielny’s effort off the line.
Carrick 7/10
Did well to protect the back-four and keep the Gunners attacking threat relatively quiet.
Cleverley 7/10
Like Carrick, Cleverley was unadventurous but did his job to shield the defence and keep it simple.
Mata 6/10
Below par display from the Spaniard. Didn’t really offer much of a threat.
Rooney 7/10
Worked hard for the team in tracking back and helping out in midfield.
Van Persie 6/10
Saw little of the ball and should have opened the scoring in the first minute. Was unlucky not to grab a late winner when Szczesny saved well.
Subs:
Ferdinand – 6.5/10 – Back in the team after a lengthy spell out and slotted in well.
Januzaj – 6/10 – Couldn’t offer any creative spark.
Young – N/A –
