Chelsea And Manchester United Face Fight To Land £22m Attacker
Chelsea and Manchester United will have to fend off some serious competition if they want to sign a £22m-rated winger who’s tearing up La Liga this season.
The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Chelsea and Manchester United face a fight to land Antoine Griezmann.
Chelsea and Manchester United will have to fend off some serious competition from Paris Saint-Germain if they want to land £22m-rated Real Sociedad attacker Antoine Griezmann, according to talkSPORT.
The 22-year-old has been in sensational form for Sociedad this season, scoring 15 goals in 23 La Liga appearances as well as 3 goals in 7 domestic cup games, to make him one of the hottest properties in Spain right now.
Understandably, his display’s have attracted interest from some of Europe’s elite and talkSPORT claim that Chelsea and Manchester United have been showing a keen interest in bringing the French Under-21 international to the Premier League this summer.
However, the English duo look like they will face some stiff competition from across the channel with the report suggesting that big-spending PSG are now the front-runners for Griezmann’s signature after holding informal talks with the players camp and the winger is understood to favour a move to the Ligue 1 champions.
talkSPORT state that Griezmann is currently valued at £22m, but Sociedad will no doubt be well aware of the growing interest in their star man and will hope a bidding war will ensue to push that price up even further.
Chelsea’s interest is curious when you consider the abundance of attacking midfield talent already available to Jose Mourinho, as Griezmann would have to compete with the likes of Eden Hazard, Willian, Oscar, Andre Schurrle and Mohamed Salah for a starting spot if he was to make the move to Stamford Bridge.
You would expect David Moyes will be busy in the transfer market this summer after a disastrous first season in charge at United and Griezmann would be an exciting addition, but it looks like the defending champions, as well as Chelsea, will have to get past PSG if they want to lure the talented winger to England at the end of the season.
