Arsenal take on bitter rivals Tottenham on Sunday afternoon. Here, Gooner Mac brings us the latest team news.
Arsenal have been dealt another double injury blow ahead of Sunday’s vital north London derby against Tottenham with Kieran Gibbs and Aaron Ramsey set to miss out, according to the Guardian.
Ramsey has been nursing a thigh injury since being forced off against West Ham on Boxing Day but returned to training last week with the hope of making his comeback against Spurs.
However, it seems he’s going to miss out with the Guardian one of several media outlets who are reporting that the Welshman is expected to be short of proving his fitness ahead of this weekends game.
Likewise, Kieran Gibbs is also set to be ruled out once again having missed the midweek draw with Bayern Munich due to an ankle injury he suffered during the final stages of last weeks FA Cup win over Everton, and the 24-year-old is not expected to recover in time to face Spurs.
The Telegraph also has the latest on Mesut Ozil’s fitness after the German was substituted at half time on Tuesday after suffering a hamstring injury. It turns out the playmaker picked up the problem in the second minute but played on not realising how serious the injury was.
Ozil will find out today the results of further tests to determine the full extent of the injury, but the feeling is he’ll be ruled out for at least a month meaning he’s set to miss Arsenal pivotal run against Spurs, Chelsea, Swansea, Manchester City and Everton.
However, there is some positive news for Arsenal with Nacho Monreal and Kim Kallstrom likely to be available for Sunday’s trip to the Lane. Monreal will almost certainly come back in at left-back to replace Thomas Vermaelen – who deputised against Bayern – but the most Kallstrom can hope for is a place on the bench.
Arsenal head into the game with Spurs with a lengthy injury list that includes Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere, Kieran Gibbs, Aaron Ramsey and Abou Diaby, while Nicklas Bendtner and Yaya Sanogo are also doubts.
