Wenger Offers Disappointing Injury Update On Ozil, Koscielny + Ramsey
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given a rather depressing injury update on Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Laurent Koscielny. See what he had to say here.
It was another frustrating time for Arsenal fans last night as they had to watch their team throw away two vital points after conceding a last minute own goal equaliser to draw 2-2 with Swansea City.
After the game, boss Arsene Wenger spoke to Arsenal.com and as well as give his thoughts on the result, he also offered a rather depressing injury update on Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Laurent Koscielny.
Arsene revealed that none of the trio are close to making a comeback from their respective injuries. Ramsey is considered the closest to returning, but the midfielder is still two weeks away from recovering from a calf injury that’s already kept him on the sidelines for three months.
There was hope the Welshman may return to face Manchester City on Saturday after Arsene said he had suffered a minor set-back in training 10 days ago, but it seems that once again the problem was worse than expected and he’s now set to miss the the next two games against City and Everton while he’ll also be in race against time to face Wigan in the FA Cup semi final.
Arsene has also suggested that Koscielny’s injury is also worse than first feared as it was reported on Monday that the defender would only be out for two weeks after picking up a calf injury against Chelsea on Saturday.
However, the boss says Koscielny will be ‘out for a while’, which means he’s also now going to miss our vital upcoming fixtures and looks unlikely to play at Wembley. Thomas Vermaelen wasn’t at his best last night so he’s going to have to step up against the formidable City attack this weekend.
We’ve certainly missed Ozil’s creativity in recent weeks and Wenger has also revealed that the German is still two to three weeks away from returning from a hamstring injury that he picked up during the opening stages against Bayern Munich, so he too is in a race against time to face Wigan in the cup.
Here’s what the boss told Arsenal.com:
on Ozil, Ramsey, Wilshere and Koscielny…
None of them are close to coming back. Koscielny is out for a while. After that Ozil, I don’t know but at least two or three weeks. Ramsey is perhaps the closest. He is two weeks maybe.
It really is extremely unfortunate that we’ve been without three of our best players, not to mention Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott, over the defining part of our season. People can talk about a lack of squad depth all they want but I don’t know too many teams that could cope without five first team players for this amount of time.
The players can’t come back soon enough and while the title now looks out of reach, hopefully we can beat Wigan, stay in touch at the top of the league, then get some players back for the last few games where we can hopefully secure the FA Cup and a top four finish at least.
