Ahead of the game, boss Arsene Wenger has given Arsenal.com a team news and injury update. Thankfully, we didn’t pick up any fresh injury concerns following Tuesday’s disappointing 2-2 draw with Swansea City. Unfortunately, none of our current injured stars will be fit enough to return against City so we’ll have much the same squad to choose from this weekend.
Arsene has given an update on the fitness of Nacho Monreal and claims the Spaniard is likely to be the first to return as he will be back in training in the coming days. Monreal has been nursing a foot injury in recent weeks and it looks like he’s working his way towards full fitness but the City game will come too soon meaning Kieran Gibbs will continue at left-back.
The boss also gave the latest on Aaron Ramsey and after confirming earlier this week that the Welshman had suffered another minor set back in training, Arsene has now asked for patience with the midfielder still ‘a few more weeks’ away from recovering from his thigh injury.
Here’s what Wenger told the clubs official website:
on the latest team news…
Compared to Tuesday night, we have no new injuries and no-one coming back as well.
on the injured players…
Monreal should be the first one back in training because he is just starting to run in the next few days. After him, Ramsey is progressing well but we need to be patient for a few more weeks.
It’s been a real blow to lose Ramsey over this crucial period and it looks like he won’t be available to face Man City or Everton and is in real race against time to make the FA Cup semi final against Wigan. If I was a betting man, I’d wager that he wont feature at Wembley either so it appears we’re going to have to make do with the squad we have at present.
Some players have looked tired recently so it would have been nice to rotate a little bit but with Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott, Laurent Koscielny and Abou Diaby joining Ramsey and Monreal on the sidelines, we have very little room for changes.
