Liverpool Eye £24m Double Swoop
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is eyeing a double swoop on Bayer Leverkusen for forward Heung-Min Son and defender Emre Can, according to the Daily Star.
As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool are linked with a double swoop on Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is eyeing a double swoop on Bayer Leverkusen for forward Heung-Min Son and defender Emre Can, according to the Daily Star.
The Merseysiders Premier League title hopes were rocked with a 2-0 loss to Chelsea on Sunday afternoon but despite the defeat at Anfield, the Reds have already ensured they’ll be playing Champions League football next season and it appears Rodgers is already making plans to strengthen his squad in preparations for the extra demand playing in Europe will bring.
The Daily Star claim that the Northern Irishman has been over to German in recent months to make personal checks on Leverkusen duo Son and Can and is now eyeing a double swoop for the pair at the end of the season.
Son is a 21-year-old forward who is capable of playing anywhere across the front three attacking positions as well as up front so he’d offer Rodgers plenty of options if he was able to lure him to Anfield this summer.
The South Korean only moved to Leverkusen from Hamburg last summer but has continued to enhance his reputation with 9 goals in 29 appearances, and the report suggests he’d set Liverpool back a fee in the region of £12m.
Can is a predominantly a tough-tackling central midfielder but is also capable of playing at centre-back or left-back so his versatility is likely to appeal to Rodgers. The 20-year-old has represented Germany at every youth level up to Under-21 and he’s tipped to become a senior international soon, and the report claims he’d also cost £12m this summer.
The potential £24m outlay could prove to be good value for Liverpool in the long-run as both players are still young and have their best years ahead of them with plenty of room to improve further, while their versatility would also be a huge asset in the squad as they’d be able to cover in several positions.
Liverpool are expected to be active in the transfer market this summer as they certainly need to add to their squad if they are going to make any impression in the Champions League next season, and it looks like Rodgers is looking to the Bundesliga for new recruits.
