Arsenal Team News: Wenger Offers Update Including Wilshere, Ox-Chamberlain + Gibbs
Here’s the latest team news from Arsene Wenger including the latest on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs and Jack Wilshere ahead of our game with WBA.
Arsenal will be looking to secure Champions League football when they take on West Bromwich Albion at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
Ahead of the game, Arsene Wenger has been speaking to Arsenal.com and gave the latest team news including an update on the fitness of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs and Jack Wilshere.
The good news is that we have no fresh injury worries to contend with meaning Arsene will choose from the same squad that beat Newcastle United 3-0 on Monday.
The boss also had some positive news on Gibbs with the defender back in fitness training following a hamstring injury. He’s not taking part in full training just yet so Sunday’s game will come too soon, but it looks like he should be in contention to face Norwich on the final day.
Wenger also gave an update on The Ox and Wilshere’s recovery, saying the duo are not yet ready to return with Chamberlain still receiving treatment on his groin injury while Jack isn’t in contention despite returning to training following a foot injury. Fingers crossed the pair will be back to face Hull in the FA Cup final in a couple of weeks.
Here’s what the boss told Arsenal.com:
on changes to the team from Monday night…
At the moment no, the same group of players should be available for Sunday. It’s our last home game and you want everybody available and finish with a win.
on Kieran Gibbs…
Gibbs will be a bit short for Sunday. The good news is that he’s back in fitness training but he is not back in the full training group yet.
on Oxlade-Chamberlain and Wilshere…
They are not ready yet. Alex is in treatment at the moment and not in training. It’s very difficult to give you a time-scale on him at the moment.
Another win over the Baggies will ensure we finish fourth and we could even have it wrapped up by the time we kick off if Everton lose to Man City on Saturday evening.
