Man Utd vs Hull City: Here’s a preview with team news, likely line-ups, key man and predicted score ahead of United’s match with Hull at Old Trafford tonight.
Manchester United will look to sign off a disappointing season on a high note when they play their final home game of the campaign against Hull City tonight.
Ryan Giggs saw his positive start as interim boss brought to an abrupt end with a 1-0 loss to Sunderland on Saturday so the Welshman will be hoping to make amends this evening against the FA Cup finalists.
It could be an emotional night at Old Trafford with a number of players tipped to leave United this summer. Captain Nemanja Vidic has already agreed to join Inter Milan when his contract expires while Patrice Evra is another who could be off on a free transfer in June.
Giggs is also unsure of his future at the club while veteran defender Rio Ferdinand is another who is out-of-contract at the end of the season and could bring to an end a glittering career at the deposed champions.
United sit seventh in the table following Saturday’s loss and now must win their final two games against Hull and Southampton to have any chance of beating Tottenham to the final Europa League spot.
Steven Bruce brings his side to Manchester knowing they are safe from relegation but they will be looking to bounce back following a 3-1 loss to Aston Villa last time out. However, with an FA Cup final to look forward to, the players would be forgiven for having one-eye on Wembley now that their top flight status is assured.
Team News
United will be without Wayne Rooney after the striker was once again ruled out with a groin injury and stomach bug, but Robin van Persie is in-line to make his first start in two months after coming off the bench on Saturday following a knee injury.
Rafael is also expected to be back in the side after returning to training after a month out with a thigh problem, but Jonny Evans is still on the sidelines.
Giggs is expected to make some changes and could decide to start himself in what could be his final appearance at Old Trafford, but Marouane Fellaini, Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck are among those also hoping for a recall.
Hull boss Steve Bruce is also expected to mix things up as he tries to keep his key men fresh for Wembley with the likes of Stephen Quinn, Yannick Sagbo, Matty Fryatt and George Boyd all pushing for recalls.
Goalkeeper Allan McGregor is back in training and could start on Sunday following a rib injury, but tonight’s game will come too soon and the same can be said of defender Paul McShane, who has been out with a knee injury.
The duo will miss the game along with James Chester (hamstring), Robbie Brady (groin) and Sone Aluko (ankle).
Likely Line-Ups
Key Man
Robin van Persie: With Wayne Rooney out injured Giggs will be looking to the Dutchman for inspiration and goals in the final third. RVP will also be keen to get his fitness up with the World Cup just around the corner.
Predicted Score
Man Utd 2-0 Hull: The visitors have little left to play for and a weakened side shouldn’t be a match for United, so we can see a home win.
