Arsenal And Liverpool ‘Hold Talks’ With Striker Over Bargain Summer Move
Arsenal and Liverpool have held talks with Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy about a bargain £8 million summer move, according to newspaper reports today.
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal and Liverpool are linked with Loic Remy.
Arsenal and Liverpool have held talks with Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy about a bargain £8 million summer move, according to reports today.
The 27-year-old has just enjoyed an excellent season on loan at Newcastle United where his 14 goals in 26 appearances helped the Magpies to a mid-table finish in the Premier League.
It seems his impressive form has attracted interest from the upper echelons of the table with the Daily Mail one of several newspapers who are claiming today that Remy has held talks with both Arsenal and Liverpool about a potential summer switch.
The Gunners have long been linked with the French international with links spanning back to when he was still at Marseille before his move to Queens Park Rangers in January 2013, and it appears Arsene Wenger is finally ready to bring the pacey front-man to the Emirates as he looks to bring in competition for Olivier Giroud this summer.
Liverpool are also expected to be in the market for attacking reinforcements as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his squad ahead of their return to the Champions League next season, and Remy would provide an experienced alternative to Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez.
QPR may try and keep hold of the striker if they successfully beat Derby County in Saturday’s Championship play off final to gain promotion back to the top flight this weekend, but with the former Marseille man understood to have an £8m buy-out clause in his contract, there is very little the West Londoners can do if the likes of Arsenal or Liverpool agree to meet that figure.
Remy is believed to be a huge fan of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and speculation over a move to the Emirates intensified after he was spotted in the stands during the Gunners final home game of the season against West Brom. With the lack of strikers currently on the books at Arsenal and the stiff competition he’d face on Merseyside from Suarez and Sturridge, you could argue that Wenger’s side are considered favourites at this moment and a move to north London may make more sense for the player.
However, it appears Liverpool haven’t given up hope of trying to lure the striker to Anfield and are ready to fight-it-out with their southern rivals over the players signature.

But it has to be said, whoever wins the race will have pulled off an excellent signing and £8m is a relative bargain in today’s market for a player of Remy’s quality and experience. The striker has proven he can score goals in the Premiership and is in the prime years of his career, so I think he’d make for a useful addition to either Arsenal or Liverpool.
