Mourinho Set To Battle Arsenal & Man Utd For €40m Spanish Superstar
Chelsea are ready to battle-it-out with Arsenal and Manchester United for the signature of Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas this summer, according to reports.
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, the race for Cesc Fabregas hots up.
Chelsea are ready to battle-it-out with Arsenal and Manchester United for the signature of Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas this summer, according to reports.
Fabregas’s future at the Nou Camp has been thrown into serious doubt in recent weeks after it emerged that Barca chiefs have made it clear the 27-year-old will be sold as part of a major summer overhaul following the appointment of Luis Enrique as manager.
Spanish journalist Guillem Balague claimed last week that the Catalans had set the asking price at €40m, although Arsenal could pick up their former skipper for much less, with the Gunner understood to have inserted two clause’s in the players contract when he was sold three years ago stipulating that not only would they be entitled to 50% of any profit made from his sale should he go to another club, but they would also have first option to buy the midfielder for just £25m.
Arsene Wenger is believed to see the opportunity to re-sign his former protege as too good to refuse, and Fabregas is surely going to be tempted to return to the club that turned him in to a world star having signed him as a 16-year-old in 2003. However, it looks like the midfielder is going to have other options to consider if he fancies having another crack in the Premier League.
Manchester United had two bids for the Spanish international rejected last summer and they are ready to renew their interest after new boss Louis van Gaal turned his attention to Fabregas after ending the clubs interest in Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos.
United are expected to be busy in the market this summer as van Gaal tries to turn around their fortunes after a disastrous season under former boss David Moyes and Fabregas would certainly be a major coup if they could pull it off.
The Metro are also claiming today that Chelsea have now thrown their hat into the ring with Jose Mourinho ready to spend the money he’s received from the sale of David Luiz to PSG on a creative midfielder, and understandably he’s identified Fabregas as a key target.
The newspaper suggests Mourinho is now weighing up a bid but with the Portuguese coach also hoping to seal a £32m deal for Diego Costa and bring in a left-back this summer, it’s believed he’s unwilling to meet Barca’s €40m asking price.

It’s certainly gearing up to be an exciting summer and Fabregas is going to be one of the main saga’s. Despite the interest from Chelsea and United, I’d still make Arsenal the heavy favourites to re-sign their former skipper, but it will be interesting to see how Wenger fits him in to his new-look side if he does bring the Spaniard back to north London.
