Liverpool Confirm Brendan Rodgers Has Signed A New Long-Term Contract
Brendan Rodgers has ended any uncertainty over his future after signing a new long-term contract, the club have confirmed on Liverpoolfc.com this afternoon.
Brendan Rodgers has signed a new long-term contract at Liverpool, the club have confirmed on Liverpoolfc.com this afternoon.
The Northern Irishman has just guided Liverpool to their best Premier League finish in several years after narrowly missing out on the title, with a late collapse seeing them finish second only to eventual champions Manchester City.
Despite the disappointment of missing out on their first league title in 24 years, Liverpool were delighted to have secured qualification back into the Champions League and Rodgers has now been rewarded for the excellent progress he’s made during his two years at Anfield with the clubs owners, Fenway Sports Group, confirming this afternoon that he’s signed a new long-term contract.
Owner John Henry and chairman Tom Werner released this joint statement on the clubs website:
“We are very fortunate to have a hugely talented individual leading our football performance and in whom we place our trust to deliver the vision we share for Liverpool Football Club.
“Brendan is at the heart of what we, as an ownership group, are trying to achieve on the pitch. This season has reaffirmed everyone’s belief that we can bring football success to Liverpool and we are all committed to working together to achieve that.
“Players and supporters have made it clear how important Brendan is to our success and so to have him commit to us for the long term is a great boost for everyone going forward.”
After signing his new deal, Rodgers said he is ‘humbled and privileged’ to be continuing on as Liverpool boss and is looking forward to the exciting new stage of the clubs development:
“I am both humbled and privileged to be offered the chance to extend my stay at this great club. I am very happy to build on the foundations we have built over the last two years and now we move onto the next phase which I believe will be as exciting, challenging and rewarding.
“I would like to place on record my thanks to the players and staff, who have been absolutely brilliant for me since the day I started at this great football club. I am grateful to our owners and senior management team who have supported me and who share my vision of how we can progress on the field.
“Finally, I must thank the supporters who are at the heart of everything we do here. I am honoured every day to lead this team and I thank the fans for their continued support as together we strive to bring success back to Liverpool Football Club.” Rodgers told Liverpoolfc.com
The clubs owners clearly think Rodgers is the right man to continue to take Liverpool forward and they have every reason to after a superb season that saw the Reds earn plaudits for their exciting brand of attacking football that very nearly led to them winning the title.
Rodgers was also named as the LMA Manager of the Year and I’m sure everyone associated with LFC will be pleased he’s ended any uncertainty over his long-term future after signing a new contract.
